Swan lake Disabled Deer Hunt 2006
The 2006 muzzleloader deer hunt for 2006 has come and gone. This years hunt was a first class event. Swan lake refuge manager John Guthrie who hosts and organizes the event did a great job as usual on this hunt. The weather was very cooperative deer movement was excellent and the hunt participants did their part in harvesting animals and helping to keep the deer herd at Swan lake in check.
This years hunt participants were Adam Lake, Dylan Hentges, Curt Schlosser, Chance Coffer, Mark Cooper, Josh Shumaker, E H Dooley and Mathew Ballard. These hunters combined for a harvest of five doe and four bucks during the 2 day hunt.
A great lineup of volunteers were there to help again. These guys work hard to guide and assist the hunters anywhere there is a need. This helps insure a quality hunting experience. A big thank you goes out to the guys who help make it possible. This years volunteers were George Shurvington, Nelson Elfrink, Todd Ritter, Mick Hawkins, Derrick Powell (with a P) Terry Hanavan, David Lentz, Kevin Pollack and Levi Miller. Another valuable group of volunteers are the guys from the Mendon Missouri Lions club. The Lions club of Mendon provides lunch for hunters and volunteers on both days of the hunt every year. The hot soup and chili with sandwiches is always welcome during the mid day break.
I have had the privilege of attending the Swan Lake hunt for several years now. I look forward to the hunt and hope to attend and help when possible for years to come. Thanks again to John Guthrie and all the volunteers who make it possible.
